3 Common Roof Issues That Need To Be Repaired Immediately

There are few parts of your home that are more essential to its integrity than the roof. Even minor roofing issues can turn into large, costly problems if not repaired. If you notice any of the following three problems during an inspection, quickly repair your roof to avoid having to replace it completely or dealing with damage to the structure of your home.

1. Missing or Damaged Shingles

If your home uses a shingle roofing system, taking time to observe your asphalt shingles can reveal a lot about the condition of your roof. For example, cupping shingles can sometimes indicate that the attic is not vented properly. Individual shingles can be blown off during a storm or fall off randomly due to improper installation. If only dealing with a few damaged or missing shingles, replacing them immediately can extend the life of your roof and prevent water damage from happening. However, large missing patches or cracking shingles that are shedding granules, often means the entire roof is ready to be replaced.

2. Water Stains on the Ceiling

If you find water stains on the ceiling of your home, this means your roof has a leak. Eventually, water might actually start dripping through the ceiling and damage the flooring and furniture underneath. Common reasons for leaking include missing or misplaced shingles, a compromised roof valley, a punctured roof, or bad ventilation.

3. Sagging Roofline

Your roof can begin to visibly sag if there are broken trusses or rafters. Additionally, rotting sheathing or a bad installation job can cause this issue. Since a sagging roof can sometimes mean damage to the frame of your roof, do not delay addressing this issue to prevent a total roof collapse.
